Camp Isola Bella Youth Session 2013

Yesterday we finished our first session of camp! Wow! What a crazy two weeks. The week started good and finished great. There were times where running on very little sleep, mixed with sassy non-coperative attitudes made me loose the IB spirit. But luckily those moments didn't last for long. I was once again painted blue from head to toe when we preformed a Smurfs skit. I became a inked up tattoo artist that apparently can't stop smiling even when knocked out by a boxer. I joined an epic battle of American toys as "Archery Barbie". That one was definately my favorite because it was a crazy, impromtu skit put on by both teams that ended up being a super fun water balloon fight between the guys and girls staff. We attempted to take the campers off island for overnight camping in tents but after we set up camp, went swimming, and cooked some questionable looking dinner, we got a severe thunderstorm warning and had to head back. The kids still enjoyed sleeping in the big rec room/pavillion type thing. I got to teach archery a couple time. I'm still trying to figure out my teaching style and how not to be overwhelmed with 12 campers at a time and only 4 shooting. But it's worth it to see them improve and get excited about archery. One day we took them to an amusement park. I rode the ferris wheel and supervised kids at the water park because I'm chicken like that. The last night we had a rocking banquet and dance. Having a dance at a Deaf camp is oddly sucessful though I realized people always have a puzzled look when I tell them that one. I enjoyed it because I was able to show my true 12-year-old girl self and jam out to Taylor Swift with a bunch of silly girls. Overall it was an amazing experience. I do admit that I'm excited for an entire day off with no children to worry about before we start our next session tommrrow. I can't wait to see where else this amazing adventure of a summer takes me!

(Pictures to come, I've been slacking)
